Tomsk is located in Western Siberia, north of the Trans-Siberian Railway, 200 km from Novosibirsk – the capital of Siberia. The area is hard to reach: most of the Tomsk region is taiga and swamps, including some of the largest in the world, the Vasyugan swamps. But the city, unofficially called “The Siberian Athens” and “The city of students” because of its many universities, is still visited and loved by many.

Tomsk also has about 200 buildings that are examples of traditional Russian wooden architecture, which gives the city a unique style.
