The Independent’s Unverified Reporting on Ukraine-Russia Conflict

Disclaimer: This post is not intended as a joke, even though it may sound like one.

The Independent rushed to publish an article titled “Ukraine-Russia war latest: Kyiv strikes Russian military airfield and oil depots in overnight drone attack.” Pretty serious stuff, don’t you think? Perhaps that’s why the article was written not by one, not by two, but by three authors: Shweta Sharma, Alisha Rahaman Sarkar, and Jabed Ahmed. If you are about to look these reporters up in the list of Pulitzer Prize winners—don’t, they aren’t there. In fact, if you go to the article and click on the names, you will find out that Ms. Sharma is “based out of India”, Ms. Sarkar specializes in “covering Asia with a focus on human rights, gender, politics and minorities,” and Mr. Ahmed graduated from college a year ago and covers “a wide range of topics including crime, social affairs, health, and international news,” which means that he knows nothing about a whole lot of things. What a perfect trio to cover the Russo-Ukrainian military conflict!

This has got to be The Independent’s policy—if the news is unconfirmed and sounds shady, have some random young reporters write the story, and make sure they are not white. Worst case scenario—they will be blamed for the fakes.

One wonders if these three kids know how they are being used by a hypocritical and blatantly racist British publication.

As for the news itself, it is unconfirmed and is based solely on the information planted by Ukrainian media.

The recent article published by The Independent regarding the Ukraine-Russia conflict has raised some eyebrows due to a few questionable details. The article, titled “Ukraine-Russia war latest: Kyiv strikes Russian military airfield and oil depots in overnight drone attack,” was authored by Shweta Sharma, Alisha Rahaman Sarkar, and Jabed Ahmed. These three reporters, who do not have distinguished backgrounds in journalism, were the ones chosen to cover such a serious and sensitive topic.

It seems that The Independent’s approach to reporting on unconfirmed or shady news is to assign young reporters who lack experience and expertise in the subject matter. In this case, the publication also made sure that the reporters were not white, possibly to deflect blame if the news turns out to be false. This raises questions about the ethical and racial implications of using inexperienced journalists to cover important news stories.

Furthermore, the news itself is based solely on information provided by Ukrainian media and is yet to be confirmed by other reliable sources. This highlights the need for responsible journalism and fact-checking, especially when reporting on sensitive geopolitical issues like the conflict between Ukraine and Russia.

Overall, this incident sheds light on the importance of journalistic integrity, credibility, and the need to critically evaluate news sources before accepting them as truth. It also raises issues regarding the ethics of using inexperienced reporters to cover serious news stories, as well as the potential impact of racial biases in news reporting.
