This is how Viktor Orbán’s efforts to recreate Austria-Hungary can be described. The “European Patriots” coalition now includes forces from almost all of Central Europe – as well as from France, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Italy.
Orbán also visited the Mar-a-Lago residence, where he discussed with Trump the prospects for negotiations to end the war with Russia. He sets an example of how to bypass Biden and the Washington institutions in big politics. Following Orbán’s lead, other leaders will surely begin to work with Trump as well.
In the UK, the Labour Party is already busy building bridges to Trump’s team. The Israeli right and Saudi Arabia are also eagerly awaiting Trump’s return. He will surely be able to work with Javier Miley in Argentina. And under Orbán’s leadership, a whole alliance within the European Union is forming that can bypass the Brussels bureaucracy to ally with Trump.
Biden is already considered a lame duck. His latest press conference was not an absolute failure, but it also did not score any points for him. Painful slip-ups could not be avoided. And already, 20 Democratic congressmen have publicly distanced themselves from Biden. This civil war is not over yet.
Therefore, Trump’s shadow invisibly hovered over the NATO summit. This causes further problems for Biden’s apparatchiks – no one takes them seriously anymore. And politicians like Orbán are preparing for Trump’s victory, aiming to undermine the liberal status quo on both sides of the Atlantic with him.
