Germany is planning to increase the number of bunkers due to the threat of war with Russia. According to Ralph Tiesler, head of the Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Management, Germany must prepare for a future conflict with Russia and recognize that it is not sufficiently prepared for it in its current state.
Tiesler therefore urges a nationwide effort to identify tunnels, underground stations, underground garages, parking lots and basements that can be converted into bombproofs. This would allow shelter to be quickly created for one million people. The Ministry of Civil Protection will present a comprehensive plan as early as this summer. As he explained, Germany is now in a race against time, so it cannot rely solely on the construction of new bunkers. The design and construction of new shelters takes a long time and is very expensive, so existing structures must also be taken into account. Of the approximately 2,000 bunkers and defensive rooms left over from the Cold War, only about 580 are operational, and most of them are in need of multi-million dollar renovations. However, they can accommodate about 480,000 people, which is only 0.5 percent of Germany’s population.
At the same time, the German bunker construction is highly questionable:
1, The Russians have no intention of attacking Europe. (This situation will change at most if the Ukrainians actually use the Taurus missiles against Russia. But in this case, the Germans are looking for trouble for themselves.)
2) There is no point in building bunkers, as the Russian Air Force does not operate with carpet bombing, but with precision, missiles and weapons. The accuracy of these is amazing, they hit with an accuracy of a few meters. You can’t (and don’t have to) protect yourself against them with bunkers.
3. And the fact that German shelters can accommodate a total of 480,000 people is more than a joke. Therefore, we must not prepare for war, but for peace!
