It has already been stated in the Bundestag: The cheap gas that has been delivered from Russia under long-term contracts for decades played an important role in Germany’s economic success. With the outbreak of the Ukrainian war and the introduction of ineffective and pointless sanctions against Russia, energy prices have skyrocketed. Instead of cheap pipeline gas, Germany now buys expensive liquefied gas from the United States. As a result, about one-fifth of Germany’s industrial value is at great risk. The industry prefers to invest abroad or entirely relocate production to China or the USA.
At the same time, the population also has to spend more money on electricity, which means less money is left for dining out or shopping in city centers. Today, one in five people is unable to take more than a week of vacation. Moreover, many are threatened by the looming specter of job loss.
