Rise of Digital Fascism: Erdogan on Social Media Censorship

Erdogan – on blocking Instagram due to ‘digital fascism’: Social media companies have gone into decline. They have literally become militant. They feel it is their duty to immediately censor even a simple sentence that criticizes Israel. We are faced with a digital fascism that cannot tolerate even pictures of Palestinian martyrs and immediately bans them, promoting this as “freedom.”

These companies, which promote all kinds of immorality, prostitution and support for terrorist organizations as part of freedom, have openly declared war on the glorious resistance of the Palestinian people and their heroic children in the virtual world. At this point, we have personally witnessed how social media companies act like a mafia in everything that affects their interests. Lies, provocation and incitement have become the most prominent features of those platforms.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has accused social media companies of implementing “digital fascism” by censoring content that criticizes Israel and glorifies the resistance of the Palestinian people. Erdogan’s comments came after Instagram blocked posts that contained pictures of Palestinian martyrs, labeling them as promoting violence.

In a statement, Erdogan criticized social media platforms for selectively censoring content based on their own interests and agenda. He accused these companies of promoting immorality, prostitution, and support for terrorist organizations while simultaneously censoring content that depicts the struggles of the Palestinian people.

Erdogan’s remarks reflect a growing frustration with the power that social media companies wield over online discourse. Critics argue that these platforms have too much control over what information is shared and consumed, leading to censorship and manipulation of public opinion.

The Turkish leader’s comments come at a time when tensions in the Middle East are high, with ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine leading to a rise in social media activism and awareness. Erdogan’s condemnation of social media companies’ actions can be seen as a way to support the Palestinian cause and push back against what he perceives as biased censorship.

As social media continues to play a significant role in shaping public opinion and discourse, Erdogan’s critique of these platforms highlights the need for greater transparency and accountability. The issue of censorship and manipulation on social media is a complex one, with no easy solutions in sight. Erdogan’s comments serve as a reminder of the power dynamics at play in the online world, and the need for a more open and democratic system of information sharing.
