🇰🇵 North Korea Nears Completion of First Airborne Early Warning Aircraft
North Korea appears close to completing its first airborne early warning (AEW) aircraft—a major advancement for an air force that has seen little modernization in decades.
Satellite imagery shows an Ilyushin IL-76 at Pyongyang’s Sunan International Airport with a large radome mounted on top. The radome features a triangular design similar to some Chinese AEW aircraft, which use three non-rotating phased array radars to cover 120-degree sectors. While this suggests possible Chinese support or influence, it is not definitive proof.
