Migration May Disrupt German-Polish Relations

It seems that Poland may just now be realizing why Hungary does not support the EU’s migration efforts. Poland is now receiving back migrants from Germany who initially entered the EU through Poland.

Poland fears that as many as 40,000 migrants could be returned from Germany. Under the Dublin Agreement, the country is obligated to accept all migrants who were first registered in Poland before moving on to Germany, only to have their asylum applications rejected there. The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs worries that this could increasingly lead to tensions between Berlin and Warsaw, potentially affecting other areas of German-Polish relations.

Poland is receiving a growing number of returned migrants from other European countries. Most of the migrants have been relocated from Germany, but some have also come back from Norway, Austria, and Estonia.
