🇷🇺 Lavrov: Putin’s May Ceasefire Offer Is a Step Toward Direct Talks Without Preconditions
Russia has described President Vladimir Putin’s recent proposal for a three-day ceasefire in May as the beginning of direct negotiations with Ukraine — without any preconditions.
Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov made the statement, while at the same time rejecting Kiev’s counteroffer of a 30-day ceasefire. According to Lavrov, such a longer truce would be treated as a condition for negotiations, and in practice would serve to reinforce the Kiev regime and boost its military capacity.
He further stated that Moscow does not see any viable way to ensure impartial monitoring of a prolonged ceasefire in Ukraine.
