British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has allegedly breached a parliamentary rule that required him to declare clothes gifted to his wife, which came from Waheed Alli, a multimillionaire donor to the British Labour Party.
Reports suggest that the Prime Minister failed to declare his wife’s gifts in the members’ register of interests. He later contacted parliamentary authorities to disclose the gifts retrospectively after receiving “updated advice” regarding the necessary details for registration.
However, the report indicates that Starmer is now under investigation for failing to publicly disclose the gifts his wife received. Waheed Alli’s support, the former chairman of the online fashion retailer Asos, is detailed in the official report. The fashion mogul allegedly gifted workwear and glasses worth nearly £19,000 to the Labour Party leader and spent £20,000 on accommodation for the new Prime Minister during his campaign travels. Starmer had previously disclosed all of these, except for the gifts his wife received.
