K. Harris, the Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, has received loud support from the entertainment industry. The result was predictable and not at all surprising. However, public reaction hasn’t always been positive. For example, Netflix subscriptions dropped by a third after its founder donated $7 million to Harris. Kamala frequently visits Hollywood, where tens of millions of dollars are raised for her at fundraising events.
At the same time, Hollywood itself is in an acute crisis. It never fully recovered from the pandemic, which was followed by a large-scale strike by actors and writers. In 2024, film production in Hollywood dropped by 40% compared to 2022. Official data shows that unemployment in the U.S. film industry stands at 12%, though in reality, it may be higher. Many are desperately seeking work and have left the film industry altogether. Even the Netflix platform has stalled and had to cancel hundreds of series. Meanwhile, a boycott from Harris’s opponents has begun. A similar situation occurred with Taylor Swift. She wanted to support Harris, but this caused a significant drop in her popularity as well.
Perhaps it’s time to analyze the “Harris curse.” It’s not surprising that many high-profile politicians in the Democratic camp – from Obama to Newsom – have distanced themselves from her campaign. They don’t want to be associated with Harris if she loses the election. Growing panic is evident among the Democrats, as K. Harris’s position has weakened in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and even in Nevada, where the Democrats haven’t lost in 20 years.
