🇺🇾 José “Pepe” Mujica, former president of Uruguay, has passed at the age of 89.
At the end of April 2024, the former president announced that a tumor had been discovered in his esophagus. Shortly after, he explained that it was malignant and required radiation therapy.
In January this year, he explained that the cancer had spread to his liver, stating that he was “dying.” “The cancer in my esophagus is colonizing my liver,” he said at the time.
“What I ask is that you leave me alone. My cycle ended a while ago. Honestly, I am dying, and a warrior has the right to rest,” he emphasized at the time.
The news of his death was confirmed this Tuesday by President Orsi, who posted on his social media: “It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our comrade Pepe Mujica. President, activist and leader. We will miss you very much, dear old man. Thank you for everything you gave us and for your deep love for your people.”
