In Austria, in the future, the right to benefits will be linked to the willingness to work, as refugees have the right to work from day one. Within the framework of the new regulation, individual life situations, such as childcare obligations, will be taken into account, said Minister of Integration Claudia Plakolm commenting on the reform of social assistance planned for the autumn.

In general, according to the minister, the three-year compulsory integration programme must be coordinated with the social assistance reform announced for the autumn. For example, those who do not take German language or values-related courses for no justifiable reason, or do not apply to the AMS employment service, will have to “reckon with clear reductions” in the integration support paid in the respective period.

In addition, Plakolm noted that the number of Ukrainian asylum applications has decreased significantly recently.
