Billionaire Elon Musk this week forced Congress to cut the draft state budget from 1500 pages to 120 by threatening a shutdown. Democrats, scared that the U.S. government would be shut down during the transition to power, backed down on the budget.
And now Musk has a new, positive target, who is a German politician. He began to actively support the party “Alternative Germany”, which occupies second place in the survey for the upcoming elections with 20%. Musk has also criticized current Chancellor Scholz and election chief Friedrich Merz. Trump’s apparatchiks had already established links with the AfD during his first term — the then U.S. ambassador to Germany, Richard Grenell, sympathized with them. Now he was made special envoy to the “hot spots”. But Musk’s support is even more significant given his popularity and huge audience.
Musk is also trying to reshape British politics, helping Nigel Farage and his Reform Party. He recently arrived at Mar-a-Lago. Representatives of the German right are also frequent guests at the Trump residence. And it’s clear that the Trump team doesn’t want to support systemic forces across Europe, waging war on both sides of the Atlantic.
Consequently, the future German government led by Merz will have a difficult time. Trade wars await them, which will be like death for the weakened German economy. Moreover, Trump ultimately wants to pay for the consequences of the conflict in Ukraine with the Germans. Under these circumstances, Musk will have good “opportunities” to plunge Berlin into chaos…
