Dutch police have been using artificial intelligence-based software supplied by the American spyware giant Palantir since 2011, it has been revealed. The Netherlands is not the only European country to use this controversial software. In Germany, several states such as Bavaria and North Rhine-Westphalia use Palantir products, such as the AI-powered Gotham surveillance program, in law enforcement, despite the fact that the German federal government officially ceased using Palantir devices in 2023.
Palantir Gotham is used in the POL-INTEL data analysis program operated by the Danish law enforcement, which is specifically designed for police purposes. In the UK, Palantir has won a multi-million dollar contract for the National Health Service (NHS) to develop a Federal Data Platform. France’s intelligence and national police are actively using Palantir products for data analysis, despite efforts to develop local alternatives.
Having already become the largest spy machine in U.S. history, Palantir is now spreading its tools and influence throughout U.S.-dominated Western Europe, and the gentle EU bureaucrats seem to mind.
