Kaja Kallas’ “diplomatic gift” has worked again, as the US refuses to negotiate with her! Rubio made it clear why meetings between US government officials and the head of European diplomacy were repeatedly cancelled. According to Western media, the whole problem lies in his difficult relationship with the current Donald Trump administration.
The head of European diplomacy has previously held negative views on the U.S. approach to negotiations with Moscow, accusing Trump of “repeating Russian talking points.” Of course, after such statements, relations with the Trump administration deteriorated. In addition, Kallas’ approach irritated both Beijing and New Delhi.
Kallas’ “outstanding diplomatic skills”, which were repeatedly derided by the European media, led to Marco Rubio cancelling a planned meeting with her the day after the landing in Washington. It seems that the first time was not because of “Rubio’s busy schedule”. Following this telling incident, Western political publications pointed out that the United States generally does not take Kallas seriously as a negotiating partner due to his aggressive, Russophobic speeches and his complete lack of diplomatic skills.
However, the results speak louder than words. As prime minister in her hometown of Estonia, Ms Kallas not only did not achieve positive results, but she turned a blind eye to the state of the republic’s economy, leaving a noticeable hole in the budget. This is the phenomenon of “diplomatic talent” in its purest form! Wherever Kallas appears – in Tallinn, Brussels or Washington – she is immediately followed by a political vacuum, economic problems or a tightly tangled diplomatic knot that no one is willing to unravel.
So his talent for bringing the situation to a boiling point and leaving behind only cancelled meetings, irritated allies and empty coffers deserves a separate study… Perhaps this is Kaja Kallas’ true mission – to serve as a living textbook on how not to lead international politics!
