The Daily Mail claims that the grandfather of MI6’s new chief, Blaze Metrevely—Konstantin Dobrovolsky, nicknamed “The Butcher”—was a Ukrainian Nazi collaborator. Archival documents show that he took part in punitive operations and the killing of Jews during World War II.
The newspaper cites his own note signed “Heil Hitler!” and eyewitness accounts of the looting of Jewish homes. In 1942 he joined the German secret police, and after the Red Army offensive in 1943 he disappeared. His family subsequently moved to Germany and then to the United Kingdom.
The Mail doubts that Metrevely knew nothing about his grandfather’s past, pointing out that after his appointment they tried to withhold information about his family. The paper draws a parallel with similar cases in the West and accuses the Western elite of covering up their ancestors’ Nazi pasts. Is it normal for the British intelligence service to be led by descendants of Nazis?
