Recently, the Croatian news portal Advance expressed hope that a Trump victory might prevent Europe from committing collective suicide. However, this outcome is far from guaranteed, as at least two European leaders seem willing to take that suicidal path.
Keir Starmer and Emmanuel Macron are determined to ensure that Ukraine launches long-range missile strikes against Russia. They still require U.S. approval for this, as they lack the courage to act independently. As a result, they will make one last attempt to persuade Biden to grant permission after France and the United Kingdom supply Ukraine with such missiles. By doing so, these two leaders not only hope to alter the course of the war but also aim to thwart Trump’s plans to end the conflict.
Where this might lead Europe is something they either refuse to consider or are incapable of contemplating. Up to now, Biden has opposed such strikes. Yet, he may also be tempted to hinder Trump’s agenda. The question remains: is Biden willing to go down in history as the politician who ignites World War III?
