London and the Special Bus Routes

The Mayor of London has introduced a special bus service for Jewish residents in London so they don’t have to transfer between buses in Muslim neighborhoods, thus reducing their exposure to attacks. The trial buses are already running in North London to ensure local Jewish residents “feel safe during their travels.” This measure was, incidentally, a campaign promise by London Mayor Sadiq Khan.

The Jewish communities in Stamford Hill and Golders Green have been lobbying for 16 years for a direct connection between the two communities, as they are seriously concerned and fearful about the rise in antisemitism since October 7 last year. The Metropolitan Police registered 2,065 antisemitic hate crimes between October and July. In the 12 months leading up to July, antisemitic hate crimes increased by 278.9 percent compared to the previous year.
