Orbán Viktor’s Mission

“I have some experience in managing war and peace,” said Viktor Orbán, referring to the Russian-Ukrainian war at the economic forum in northern Italy. Orbán alluded to the fact that this is not the first war he has dealt with as prime minister. He believes that without communication, the war cannot be stopped, and it is a mistake that the EU is not engaged in meaningful dialogue with Russia. “The first step to peace is a ceasefire, not a peace plan. First, communication, then a ceasefire, and finally a peace plan,” he explained. In his view, Donald Trump could help with this if he wins the U.S. presidential election in November. In any other scenario, the Russian-Ukrainian war is likely to escalate.

Regarding the European Union, Orbán highlighted concerns with the current concept of the so-called “Green Deal” and pointed out that due to the EU bureaucracy’s mistakes, large corporations are investing elsewhere, not focusing on Europe. Additionally, he questioned why member states cannot decide on migration at the national level. “Why are they forcing this quota-based distribution upon us?” he asked.
